LOS ANGELES – An Alhambra man alleged to be a prolific tagger who spray painted images of cats on freeways and buildings in the downtown Los Angeles area was sentenced today, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Pallavi Dhawan said Rick Ordonez, 33, was sentenced to 90 days in county jail and three years of formal, supervised probation.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Horwitz additionally ordered the defendant to complete 300 hours of graffiti removal and pay $8,675.38 in restitution to Los Angeles County, the California Department of Transportation and Metrolink.

Ordonez, whose moniker is “Atlas,” pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of felony vandalism. Five counts were dismissed at sentencing, under the terms of the negotiated settlement.

The defendant has been in custody since his arrest on June 30 by deputies of the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. Ordonez was charged on July 2 with six counts of felony vandalism for acts of graffiti that took place between January and March of this year.

Most of the graffiti was on state and local transit property, authorities said.
