VAN NUYS – A 22-year-old Marine who allegedly was driving
drunk when he struck and killed a grandmother in front of her Reseda
home on Sunday was charged today with gross vehicular manslaughter
while intoxicated, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Richard Albert Bultron, (dob 12-23-87), is scheduled to be
arraigned sometime after 1:30 p.m. at Van Nuys Superior Court,
Department 100, said Deputy District Attorney Eduards Abele.
Chandrika de Silva, 51, had just gotten out of her family’s
vehicle parked in front of their driveway at Strathern Street and
Wilbur Avenue when a Jeep allegedly driven by Bultron struck de
Silva’s car, pinning her between the two vehicles. She was killed
and her 5-year-old grandson, who was still inside the car, was
seriously injured. De Silva’s husband, who had gotten out of the
vehicle earlier to open the gate, was uninjured.
Bultron, charged in case LA065603, was also charged with DUI
causing injury and driving with a .08 percent or higher blood
alcohol causing injury. He is being held on $130,000 bail. If
convicted, he faces more than 11 years in state prison.
