LOS ANGELES – A female associate of a Los Angeles gang pleaded no contest today to the 2008 killing of a Los Angeles International Airport employee, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Inaba of the Hardcore Gang Division said Jessica Ortega, 32, pleaded no contest to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted gang and gun allegations.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers ordered Ortega to return for sentencing on Aug. 4. Ortega faces a 25-year state prison term.

On April 10, 2008, just after midnight, victim Samantha Padilla was fatally shot when she exited the northbound 110 freeway at Slauson Avenue. Padilla, who was on her way home from work, was stopped at a traffic signal when she was killed.
