Britton Schaefer

Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Senior Investigator Britton
Schaefer is assigned to the
Joint Regional
Intelligence Center as the terrorism liaison officer coordinator for
all municipal law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County. He
previously was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s
Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) Al-Qaeda Squad and Threat Squad in
Los Angeles from August 2004 to May 2009.
As a member of the JTTF, he was a special deputy
U.S. marshal,
holding national security top secret clearances. Schaefer and LADA
Senior Investigator Daewon Kim created a counterterrorism training
program, which they conduct for the Criminal Justice Institute and
other major training entities. The program is certified by the
California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Schaefer and Kim have received more than 500 hours of specialized
counterterrorism training from various local, state, federal and
international law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Prior to joining LADA in 2000, Schaefer served as a deputy sheriff for
the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for six years. Schaefer
also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 17 years, achieving the
rank of major. He was twice deployed to the
Middle East to
conduct operations in Turkey, Israel and Egypt, including one
deployment in support of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Schaefer is
a graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in
criminal justice administration.
